Star Plus: Leading Entertainment Channel for Hindi TV Shows

Initially when it was first launched in 1992, Star Plus was an English-language television channel in India. News isn't it?! The channel; formerly showed international content from the UK, USA and Australia. During those days, ZEE TV was the Hindi-language channel in India. Initially acquired by News Corporation, STAR Plus however ended its relationship with ZEE TV when it was transformed into a 24 hour Hindi-language channel where STAR World became the network's English-language channel.

Being part of the 21st Century Fox's STAR India network, the channel telecasts a mix of different genre television shows. Having redefined the Hindi entertainment world with its versatile programming, the channels telecasts a mix of drama series, mythology soaps, crime shows, comedy shows, game shoes, cookery and travel shows; and even blockbuster movies (telefilms); this channel is the leading entertainment channel for Hindi television shows in the country.

With the core audience for the channel being women, the channel is also known for having show's which are popular amongst men and kids as well. One of the most interest aspects is that the actors and actresses of these shows are usually remembered by their screen names rather than their real names. This is strikingly different from Bollywood actors and actresses who are remembered for their real names rather than their 'reel' names!

The channel was awarded with the Indian Telly Awards in 2006 and ever since then has remained a dominant channel in the country. The channel follows a theme "Rishta Wahi Soch Nayi" which means that relationships are still the same but our thoughts are new; symbolising the theme behind the shows telecast on the channel. In 2011, the channel also launched 'Star Plus High Definition (HD)' offering a better picture quality which is crisper and more detailed.

Some of the popular TV shows which are telecast on the channel include Diya Aur Baati Hum, Saraswatichandra, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Mahabharat, Arjun, Nach Baliye 6, Ek Veer Ki Ardaas - Veera, Pyaar Ka Dard hai Meetha Meetha Pyara Pyara and many more.
The channel which also has a website of its own enables viewers to view photos from the shows, read about different news articles pertaining to their favorite shows and actors and actresses from the show, read about the different award ceremonies telecasting on the channel, etc. There are also many online quizzes which a person can take part in on the website, testing their knowledge on a variety of subjects related to the industry.
